About this episode

Janine Coombes joins Louise Miller to overhaul the offer positioning and pricing strategies that prevent solo business owners from scaling. Coombes argues that most entrepreneurs fail to convert leads because their messaging lacks a direct path to purchase, leaving potential clients confused about how to actually hire them. This special takeover episode of the Unfrazzle podcast identifies the specific friction points where sales processes break down for coach-like service providers.

Coombes details her transition from a rigid corporate identity to a vibrant personal brand on LinkedIn, where she pioneered original video content through The Secret Marketing Show. The discussion highlights how the Make It Happen Club serves as a sanctuary for clarity, helping members like Coombes reduce their to-do lists and honor self-promises through habit-stacking. Miller and Coombes contrast the exhaustion of pandemic-era content trends with the long-term benefits of showing up authentically to drive business growth. Specific insights cover the necessity of an outside perspective to diagnose whether a revenue plateau stems from poor messaging or a flawed sales funnel.

Janine Coombes chooses a lifetime supply of crisps over chocolate during a lighthearted opening segment that sets the tone for her 'silly but strategic' approach to marketing. Louise Miller emphasizes that sustainable productivity requires embedding one habit at a time rather than seeking total overnight transformation. The conversation concludes with actionable advice for listeners to audit their own offers for immediate clarity.

And Janine and I were just talking before i hit record about how long she's actually been a member of Make it Happen club and we're not entirely sure because we've worked together one-to-one before Janine joined the club but we think about six months that feel right? Yeah nobody can check! No doesn't matter does it really

02:49 It's all good, but I'm absolutely delighted that Janine is here and that i get to shine a bit of a spotlight on her and her fabulous work. So thank you Janine for being here! And we're going to get the most important question out the way first chocolate or crisps? Now I've given this some thought um thankfully you sent it sent it to me in advance and the answer is crisps That sounded very definitive. Chris? I've had a good think about it and i thought this is really difficult and it depends on how I'm feeling, in the end I made the decision about volume like could I...I could eat crisps for hours whereas I could not eat biscuits for hours. Chocolate! I like that good thought process very good well done

CHAPTER 03 / 6 Discussion

Offer Positioning and Messaging for Coach-Like Entrepreneurs

Janine Coombes explains her professional focus on helping "coach-like" people increase earnings through strategic offer positioning, messaging, and pricing. She notes that many entrepreneurs struggle with sales because they fail to clearly communicate what they do or provide a direct way for clients to work with them. Coombes emphasizes that an outside perspective is often necessary to identify whether a business problem lies in the messaging or the actual sales process.

offer positioning· messaging· pricing· coaches· sales strategy

03:37 Alright, moving on to the series bit. So do you want to tell us a little bit about what you do? I help coaches or how i call them coach-like people earn more without slogging their guts out through the magic of offer positioning and messaging pricing and that makes the sales and marketing easier It does and I've been on the receiving end of that and can vouch for the fact that it does make all of those things easier. So yes, absolutely! And i would love to know also...I don't know if I've ever actually asked you this question? Why is doing that important to you? Gosh, the reason why I've helped those people in this specific way has been a work

04:19 Slow iteration over the years. But to cut a long story short, it's kind of what I needed five six years ago when i first set up my business. I kind of forgot about the importance of offers despite having done that in corporate. My last corporate role was offer development and proposition development and that all went out the window when I set up my own business I kind of forgot that you've got to make offers, you've got to actually tell people what you do and put an offer out there to see whether they want it or not. You've gotta give them a chance to actually work with you! So that's why iIve landed on this um and I just prefer to work with coach-like people who are like their attitude they're more likely to be growth mindsetted they take responsibility they work hard

05:15 And I think that's a joy to work with. I get better results from them as well. Yeah, yeah so interesting isn't it? So what is it that they're doing usually if they haven't quite figured out their offers and they haven't got that bit nailed what is it that they are doing that's not working for them you've got any insights on that? It does change depending on the client like some clients come to me and they think the messaging is not quite right The sales messages, what you know the frequency and the calls to action and really getting into the nitty-gritty of the sales process. Whereas some people think they've got their messaging nailed but actually they haven't so it can be a funny old business I love it when people come with a bit of an open mind because what they think is wrong

CHAPTER 04 / 6 Discussion

Personal Branding and Authentic Video Content on LinkedIn

Janine Coombes discusses her transition from a restrictive corporate persona to an authentic, "silly" online presence that incorporates color and humor. She reflects on being an early adopter of original video content on LinkedIn, specifically through "The Secret Marketing Show." While she acknowledges that the influx of funny videos during the pandemic made her more selective about her output, she maintains that showing up as one's true self is vital for business growth.

06:02 is not always what is needing of the work. Yeah and I think that is the benefit of having an outside pair of eyes looking in isn't it? You get so caught up in what you think the problem is, and trying to solve a problem that actually isn't a problem. It's only when you get another pair of eyes on it sometimes that you have that clarity and that insight that actually helps you change the thing that's going to make the difference. So what's been the proudest moment in your business so far Oh, what's been the proudest moment? This isn't like a singular moment but it's I think when i realized that I was becoming being myself online and I think when I came out as myself and I unleashed Janine onto the world. And um that felt quite brave

06:58 Tell us more about that. I know what that looked like because i think that was when I first became properly aware of you, I think we'd met before that but then I can remember so I was probably following you already because we've met at an event back in 2018 or something a long time ago but I still remember seeing you suddenly showing up in full Janine-ness tell us Tell us what you were doing. Yeah, it's funny because people who met me before then and then people who know me from after then I think there are two quite different personas online whereas now when people meet me they're like oh you're exactly the same as how you are online so i feel comfortable to be silly online, to have a play with things

07:42 I like colour, I like larking about on camera. I like pulling silly faces You know? I've learned my tone of voice whereas prior to that there was a hangover from corporate where i had to sound professional and wear professional things and um...I was trying to shove myself in someone else's box That sounds wrong but you know what I mean I love it. Yeah, and you probably wouldn't want to say this so i'm going to say for you. I think certainly from where I was sitting you were one of the first people that I saw doing really fun original videos on LinkedIn and making a laugh! Yeah, yeah I do feel like I was a bit of a trailblazer

08:34 Curses, Covid came along and stole all of my free time. So I'm going to blame Covid for falling off the wagon there because now...I kind of want to get back to some of the funny videos but it's gotta feel right and it's gotta feel original to me and I think there are loads of people doing funny videos now on it that I sort of feel put off because I don't want to look like I am emulating them! I sort of feel like this has turned into a bit of therapy session! No, but you still do show up on video and do your own little thing. And it might not be like a weekly occurrence but when you feel it and you're in the mood, you still do show up like that? Oh yeah I'm not scared to go back...I am not scared to go on video! But um I don't have anything that's like mine. Like I'm known for...like back then it was The Secret Marketing Show. It will come, it will come! You'll know it! So

CHAPTER 05 / 6 Discussion

Productivity Habits and the Make It Happen Club Experience

The discussion shifts to how the Make It Happen Club facilitates long-term productivity through the gradual building of habits rather than quick fixes. Janine Coombes credits the program with helping her honor self-promises and maintain a focused, lighter to-do list. The hosts compare this incremental process to establishing a morning routine, noting that sustainable business growth requires embedding one habit at a time rather than attempting total transformation at once.

productivity· habit building· time management· to-do lists· morning routine

09:27 With all of this fabulousness that you are up to in the world, how has Make It Happen Club helped you? Make it happen club is such a wonderful space and I've said this too before. You are weird magical woman Who holds a space like nobody I've ever met before and even if i miss a session because I'm doing something like you know on holiday or something, you know the rare things that are more important than Make It Happen Club. There's not much it's not much that's more important than Make It Happen Club. I will re-watch and I'll honour it and um I will follow the process and it's just so powerful and is the way to keep myself on track to check in with

10:11 What I have planned to get those planned things done, which as you know is not a natural thing for me. I'm not a natural get-things-doner but i have noticed more recently and this is the power of just turning up regularly and doing the work every session that you put out, every month and the quarterly sessions and everything...I am starting more and more to honour other things I've promised that I will do for myself and that is sort of changing my perception of myself It's so beautiful. Yeah, yeah it is I love that and you're so right it isn't a tritive thing isn't it something that the more you keep showing up the more you get from it and the more you start to notice...

11:02 Doing all of the things as a result of this, taking the time and space to think about it and make those decisions. And actually take the action that you want to be taking so... Sorry I'm complimenting you shut up! I've never been so clear and my To Do list has never been so light it's just I feel really really focused To mention the P word, productivity. You help with so much more than productivity but I know it's on a lot of people's minds must be more productive and it feels like it should be a quick thing like a short sharp planner hack time toggle something quick you know and it should work and you switch it on and aha! Productivity spurts forth

11:57 I think having participated in your programs and the Make It Happen Club, and your methods it's a gradual building of Habits and processes, and it builds over time. And it just makes sense now that I've experienced it that's how it works because like I have other routines in my daily life and now I've had to build back over time like my morning routine you know? I didn't start by doing latitude journaling and meditation and a green tea and this and this and this...I've got about six things! I did them one-by-one

12:33 And that's how you embed it and move on and embed another one to move on. Yeah, I think that is also the way that we build a business isn't it? You don't try well maybe some people do try and do all of the things all at once but I bet not doesn't work very well... process and the gradual building of things. So yeah, thank you for sharing all of that! Bless you. For sure. So you are fabulous, I know everybody knows I think that so let's tell people where they can find out more about you so you can help them get their offers and all that good stuff sorted. Yeah oh thank you come on connect with me on LinkedIn Janine Coombes, i think i'm the only one there might not be but i'm the one who larks about on camera the most
