Following the departure of Kathy Schroeder and Oliver Gyarfas on March 12, 1993, the FBI cut electricity and implemented spotlights to disrupt SOS signals. Mike Pinera of the band Iron Butterfly suggested using high-decibel music, specifically "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida," as psychological warfare to drive residents out. Special Agent Dick Schwein oversaw the implementation of these sounds during the evening shifts with approval from the Strategic Information and Operations Center (SIOC).

Catherine Madison explains that the women and children moved to the second floor prior to the raid due to fears that the government might attempt to seize the children.
