The World Health Organization (WHO) condemned suggestions by French scientists Jean-Paul Mira and Camille Locht to test coronavirus vaccines in Africa. WHO Chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus labeled the remarks racist and a hangover from a colonial mentality. The scientists later apologized, claiming their comparison of vaccine trials to AIDS studies on prostitutes was misunderstood.
