The Reform Party committee attempted to organize leaders across every U.S. congressional district to secure proxy votes for their platform. During the August 1995 convention in Dallas, the Texas reformers were blocked from presenting their resolution by Ross Perot's son-in-law and Russ Verney. Despite prior promises of a workshop, the rules were changed at the last minute to silence the dissenters. This led to a public confrontation and a walkout by members who felt conned by the national leadership.
