Winston Blake, a British citizen, was killed in his room during the initial raid when helicopter fire penetrated the water tanks blocking his window. Clive Doyle discovered Blake's body in a pool of blood and water, noting the downward angle of the bullet holes. Later in the siege, another resident, Greg, attempted to use a miniature blowtorch to melt plastic toy soldiers to plug the hundreds of holes in the tanks in a futile effort to restore the water supply.
