That's the thing when people go for operations and they say oh yeah no sorry you can't operate heavy machinery I know they're talking about driving a car but all i can think about is like diggers and cranes and stuff as if we all operate that sort of heavy machinery! I think the one with the wrecking ball? You know the wrecking ball? Yeah it was a singer who did that the Miley Cyrus... Go full Miley Cyrus on someone if you under on heavy medication. A tank What about an oil tanker? You get stories of people crashing an oil tanker, don't you. Or at least blocking up a sewer's canal so yeah it could still happen again! Apparently it takes like a squillion miles or something to stop a super tank. You have to put it in reverse whilst having breakfast if you want to park at tea time

03:52 I took my sister-in-law out for a driving lesson, uh...a couple of weeks ago and yeah the scene where she parks. I think i'd be safer to just try and stop on a sixpence in a super tank than in that. I love that you've just made an analogy with your sister-in-law's driving to stopping a super tank! It was scary and I didn't have dual controls um so uh yeah thank nobody died But your eldest daughter's coming up for driving lessons isn't she? She is indeed. For her birthday I got her a provisional driver's license and an intensive course that she is going to start doing very soon. Now she has actually got a license. Oh so she is 17 right? Yeah, she is 17 years old now yeah! So thats what I have for her birthday. I've told her that shes not driving my car until she has had at least a few lessons with someone else with a brake pedal at their foot just to make sure that she can go forward and stop at certain times then I might take around the car park or something

04:55 My first car off I passed my test was a Fiat Panda. Classic! It's, I think it probably had a value of about £263 pounds probably in the passenger seat there was some rust in the footwell not a huge amount but definitely a hole you know and um and you could see the road yes The Frank Stones Mobile. Yeah, but that was okay! Obviously the world changes doesn't it? It's like the Mini you know if you see a Mini now it's actually just a big car pretty much yeah back in the day of a little car was a little car Fiat Panda literally was a go-kart with a roof and I had one so it was some sort...I'm not even sure it was 1 liter I think 800cc. But once you got it up to 75 mile an hour by pushing out of a plane

05:49 No, it had momentum and obviously it was only like tin foil bases. I think yeah suffice to say six weeks later I smashed into someone else pretty much head on! See I didn't learn to drive till I was 30 so um... And that was only because I had a family So my first car that I was driving around was uh what they called a Ford Focus Fold Focus, yeah. It's like modern that's probably a sporty one it was only 11 years ago so yeah I was a late learner but it just meant that I didn't need hardly anywhere near as many lessons as I'm sure would have done years before

07:27 I had a go-kart when i was kid and my dad used to make us do the gear stick. He was a rally driver so it would have been poor show if you couldn't drive. But driving is one thing, driving without crashing is something else! Yeah...I've written off So that was the first car I wrote off. The second one kind of wasn't my fault really, we were traversing along a country lane um...a little bit too fast but uh and i had the car full of boxes! My dad had sent me to London to pick up all these files from some sort of administrator business

Stress of that next thing i know three weeks later my first kids birthday a week after that second kids birthday got the stress of all the birthday parties then before you know it the half term school holiday kicks back in so they've been there six weeks and they got a week off Then you go Halloween which whatever but then bonfire night and then before you know it you're into sort of... It's like oh my gosh end of November which then we get all this Black Friday stuff kicking in

They were just low end basic tablets for what at the time would have been an eight and six year old. And then so it was like 170 160. Then he gets The Black Friday wallet goes up actually higher but they still got special offer So I think they've stopped it a little bit because remember like few years back in Asda where they had crushes and yeah but i mean who goes to an actual shop anymore for anything? Oh no that was like the 1800s wasn't it, that was old school. So vintage! Paid in cash! Paid in cash what coins yeah actual paper money That's where I think they're taking the fun out of it you want to slash the prices

I've not seen The Purge Where all crime is made legal for one night. Oh okay, I've heard about it but not seen it. Is there any humour? Any humour? I have no idea! I don't think so... I know the concepts just like what okay I've read the blurb pretty much I get the concept and I know what's gonna happen so yeah I'm alright with that I don't need to worry Yeah there are a lot of films like that mainly horror ones

14:26 But yes, I'm gonna go online and get most of my Christmas shopping done. And i've got to start thinking as well about what I'm going to buy for my team members because um...I've got a bunch people who work for me and what do you do? What do you buy? I don't just want to buy blanket alcohol for people so I think most of them drink but I'm not 100% sure! Yeah, I just have some creative gift ideas. So I've got no idea what to buy any members on my team And also we are fully woke now so the idea that you could accidentally wander into a mildly offensive gender based gift could be horrific.

15:09 and So yeah, I'm going to be doing that because we haven't really got...I've mentioned Secret Santa but we haven't actually set one up and i don't want to be responsible for making it happen. Because every other year we've done it there's been plenty of times when we've had it going and you just know someone's gonna let it down so why always end up buying multiple gifts? So from my secret santa then I'll have a couple of random ones so that if somebody forgets they say oh this one hasn't got a label on it must be for you! And so ends up costing me a bloody fortune

But then of course everyone rushes out on the day goes down to the Tesco slash Marks and Spencer's slash other high street store that has a Secret Santa aisle where they've got tips for five quid. So it's just a big landfill disaster basically What do you think is a good price for Secret Santa? Work-based Secret Santa, good price. Well it depends on how close you are as a team if you're really really close team and you know everyone and actually people are gonna put the effort in to get something personalized then I reckon up to 20 quid If you don't know them if it's just like a big bunch of people and there's kind of names from a hat doesn't really matter Fiverr Don't waste more than the fiver because your going to buy shit and throw away so don't worry about

16:49 So Fiverr says toot, Fiverr's basically having a landfill toot right. But so then you go champagne surely like the Bottle of Carver $4.99 jobs are good? Yeah yeah that works that works so and then most people I would say roughly a tenner is average but again you're not getting much good stuff for a tenner are ya I think if i was going to get it done and had a Fiverr's budget, I'd go to fiver.com and there is loads of random crap on there loads of things that you can do lots of little thoughtful things that literally only cost a fiver! That's a place to go for a cheap Christmas present but you've got to prepare in advance. And what Fiverr had in the gig marketplace? Yeah yeah

17:36 But they make you logos and what can you get as a Secret Santa gift on Fiverr? Someone's 30 knickers, I don't know who's 30 knickers you're buying this web for Fiverr. You can get like a piece of personalized art made just with their name on it or something, or someone will compose a song or write a poem or something like that. There's little creative things that people can do and they'll only charge you five for it! And have you ever gifted someone? I mean a gift like that. I'm fearing a disappointed look on someone! Oh let's be honest, if it's worth a five are they going to be disappointed no matter what?! It takes a lot of effort to put into something that's only gonna cost five pounds but isn't gonna be a disappointment. Oh Sandra in accounts You are the best at adding up things

I'm doing a Christmas check this out right? Fortunately i've met someone who if you are a long-term listener eight months at least, if you listen to the podcast for last eight months, you'll know that Jonnie ended his six year dating drought with a bit of a home run really! So not only is she awesome but she's also bang into Christmas. Everyone's getting fully excited about Christmas her sister in law is even more into Christmas

So we've got a pub Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day and it's like stocks on Christmas Eve We get a barman and then the rest of them you can bring your own booze as well but the rest is honesty bar Oh yeah, OK. I know i think in the world we live today maybe that works it wouldn't have worked when we were in our 20s as for sure or teens but yeah it's really exciting so it's a little old pub in Ramsgate the thing like dates back to 300 years on the details

20:30 Oh, pirates and you know, Jack Sawyer and stuff. And they're rolling kegs of beer up the street and they're off to sea. You know? And he's got the bedrooms upstairs all been Airbnb'd out with roll top bars, classic B&B style, Airbnb style but most more than anything we've got about 25 of us going to be hanging out for the next three days. That would be awesome! That sounds wicked So The Secret Santa is 50 quid 50 quid. That's a lot of money! Yeah, but what they're saying is you don't... it's so that there's a present session and everyone gets something decent.

This app they've used right has got a gift list so you go in and pick up a bunch of stuff yourself? Hmmmm yeah I see how... The simplest in me says okay fine thats great I don't have to think about it or worry about it but might as well just buy it myself! Buy something you want yeah That's what I do at Christmas anyway. The only thing about Secret Santa is someone's buying something for me and that just doesn't happen to me anymore so i like the idea of someone else, even if they get it a little bit wrong buying something really cool for 50 quid or 10 gigs off Fiverr yeah yeah you can buy me an album from Fiverr! That'd be awesome

She pulled out and saw the letter I had written. That's the kind of thing you get with me! You know if you're dating me... Oh I'm gutted your taken! Although I was taken for a few weeks. Well yeah last time I spoke to you just before I got COVID-19 you were going on a date Yeah, yeah I was and ended up going on many many dates for about five or six weeks. And had a lovely time for most of it. Wasn't 100% sure if everything was going to work out and so I said look, we went away and we had a weekend in London actually did a whole load of cocktail bars and touristy things and so weekend in London So it was quite nice but you know when you're thinking I'm just not 100%, there's few things I want to consider. As I said that I've got a back-to-back day at work then I've got an event tonight that I've gotta go to like any person working on so much fun um and then I'm back

So I just want to think a few things through, so went asleep yada yada woke up the next morning to bunch of messages which had been deleted like about a dozen different messages have been sent and then deleted at 3am then nothing and then later on in the day started getting load of abuse and she was unhappy that i hadn't messaged her all day All right, okay. You know what I think this is a lucky escape here you know? You do you! This is great this is fine but thanks very much so yeah that was a short-lived experience shall we say. Yeah oh well I'm kind of sorry for that...I'm excited that you had some dates and had some fun um I don't mean that in a flipping

A classic story of she thought there would be something she went out to find it wasn't really there so she's set about making it herself though. The thing about it is and this goes for any single parent group is you got to let go

Oh that's much better than tweening So my boy is at the first part of secondary school been there six weeks done a bunch of work now they've gone back after their half term holiday they've set some revision and some tests Okay, so I'm stressing to him the importance of keep... school is easy if you keep up. If you listen in class, homework's easy. If the homework is easy, get it done, you can play, hand it in and get a good mark so that you don't have to stay behind for the next lesson because you know what happened. Life gets easier if you just keep up! I've always stressed that. So find out about these tests not through him, but through the parent group on Facebook. So I said oh what about these tests? Oh yeah totally sorted we've been doing all of them at school this week

I said well i think we're going to do some revision this weekend anyway otherwise i'll feel a bit like i'm not doing my thing as a dad yeah yeah okay dad okay dad okay dad so i'm trying to crowbar him off of minecraft basically and fifa and we managed to do some revision so i'm thinking tick job done of course he wouldn't want to do rubbish but yeah he's gonna want to do all right otherwise you know all the years i've spent telling him that school is easy when you keep up with been for waste So, so then I end up in a phone call with his mother tonight who's not happy about the amount of revision that's done. Like we did it! What? Too little? Yeah too little. Trans, trans, what's the word... Turns out

And the slither of preparation that we've done will barely touch the edges and yes, so he completely not only did he mugged me off basically but I believed him. I generously gave him this lorry load of trust which he just drove off into the sunset but But was that because he was deliberately keeping it and hiding it or was it because he just didn't understand? Glenn, that's exactly what I said. Did he not realise what would be required does he not know how long it's going to take...I don't know but the difference is that she got his stuff out and went through it whereas I just took what you said as gospel! Yeah yeah it's tough because you want to give them the chance they need to own it they need to want to do it and they need to push it forward themselves

33:01 But they are also kids so it's a tough balancing act to get. Yeah, so I start thrashing with the rhinoceros hide whip but i will probably limit some screen time next time I see him yeah that's right so yeah bloody hell though! There is a wheeler dealer side too which I kind of respect a little bit his mum doesn't like that side of him too. That aside he's going to make millions Well, that's kind of where I'm at with that. Yeah yeah he had to do it he volunteered to do a talk the other day uh At Church which is another subject but i went along talk about go back into the what did they call it? Into the into the lions den yes

33:48 Which clearly they're not lions, they're actually a very loving generous group of people. It's just that I felt a little bit let down by them after the big breakup. But I hadn't been back for six years and i've been royally pissed at a fair number of them which I have let go and made up with certain people but so yeah I'm there like whoa this is a bit intense And then, but I wanted to represent. You know? I never want my kid as much as possible...I don't want my boy or girl to look up to the audience or look down the touchline and not be there. Through my work and through my commitment that

34:36 I'm privileged enough to be able to say that i've missed almost none of those kind of events for my kids and this, and all credit to his mum. She made me see that basically and so I went along and he smashed it. Nice! That's good The person before him said, I'm a bit nervous so i might be looking at my phone quite a bit and she did a great job but she did look at her phone quite a lot. And he gets up and says oh yeah hi uh my name's Jago I'm going to talk you about the youth group and stuff and yeah I probably won't use my phone much But he got everyone on site like he got you know got a few laughs straight away got everybody on side um so yeah it's good good stuff

35:21 You need the measure of someone is their ability to stand up and give a speech, just stand up and present something. Shake someone's hand and introduce themselves these are the core kind of competencies of decent people I think Yeah, yeah. Although it's a lot of people are kind of introverted and just find that sort... they're absolutely wonderfully competent and incredibly accomplished yet fine public speaking or things like that. Or even just meeting people so anxiety inducing for whatever reason that they struggle with it. Yeah no I do get that

36:02 And it's interesting that that something, I find alien. So I have to really go some to empathize with those people and to appreciate that actually they're the introverted people that have worked something out that I could never have worked out or see a situation for something I'm never going to gonna see it for Yeah, I always feel like it's such a... for me like that is not even a simple skill. It's just normal and so i always feel like there's some sort of lesson that I can do some sort of exercise something the thing that I can just unlock in their brain all of a sudden switch on and they'll realize it doesn't matter they'll realize that people are there to give them support when they want him to succeed

36:41 And they'll suddenly be able to do public speaking. They'll suddenly be able to introduce themselves to a random person they've never met before, and that just doesn't happen! Some people just will never get it, never understand it, never have that sense of comfort putting themselves out there so yeah I've got constantly check myself back when I'm asking my team to present this or to lead This Show and Tell, or to run that presentation. It's like not everyone can do it! That doesn't mean that they're crap at it... They're probably absolutely superb at their job they just don't do that bit of it. Apparently Glenn Hoddle was a nightmare for this England manager former Tottenham Monaco whoever else he played for in LA He would just tell people no what I want you to do is

Either give it up to him or come back down to their level! He was such a waste as a manager, I feel so sorry for him but it just didn't work out for him hopefully it's going to work better for old Antonio Conte as well obviously both of us being Spurs fans he's been put in post not a second too soon otherwise he would definitely have been United-bound I reckon Yeah exactly I mean uh for all football Premier League fans

38:25 It's just a crazy season. Absolutely crazy! Five managers I think it is now, that's the cushiest job in the world. It's really high pressure you have to work your ass off, you're going to get dog abuse if it doesn't go that way... If it goes well you're gonna be the best person on earth basically and you get about somewhere between 100 grand a month to 1 million a month, which you know is alright if you can get the work. And then if you get sacked well you get about 7 million 10 million um... You probably will have to be off work for a couple of months but or a week!
