The Power of ‘I AM’ – How Mantras & Affirmations Rewire Your Mind for Success cover

About this episode

Jonnie Jensen reveals how the Reticular Activating System (RAS) functions as a biological filter that dictates personal success or failure. Drawing on the 2007 New York Marathon and the teachings of Dr. Wayne Dyer, Jensen demonstrates how the mantra Winners Never Quit overrides physical pain and negative internal dialogue. This neurological mechanism explains why specific focus on a goal or identity statement forces the brain to prioritize opportunities that align with that vision.

Techniques from Esther Hicks and Tony Robbins provide the framework for the High Value Man Project I Am List, a journaling exercise designed to reprogram the subconscious mind. Jensen cites the mental anchoring used by Formula One drivers and downhill skiers to illustrate how present-tense identity statements build resilience. The discussion contrasts these solution-oriented tools with the pervasive struggles found in The Man Cave Facebook group, where 8,000 members navigate rising rates of male depression, obesity, and suicide. Landmark Education concepts further support the ability to choose specific ways of being, such as bold or alive, regardless of external circumstances like divorce or family tragedy.

Personal resilience takes center stage as Jonnie Jensen recounts using affirmations to navigate a marriage breakdown and his brother’s suicide. A recent football trial for a 15-year-old serves as a practical case study for parents looking to instill confidence in their children through positive reinforcement. The High Value Man Elite program offers a structured 90-day path for fathers to implement these identity shifts through 10-week coaching cycles.

CHAPTER 02 / 10 Discussion

New York Marathon Experience and Winners Never Quit Mantra

A personal anecdote regarding the 2007 New York Marathon illustrates the power of the mantra "winners never quit." Despite being underprepared and facing physical pain during the race, the use of empowering thoughts and mental imagery of family helped overcome negative internal dialogue. The narrative emphasizes that what individuals tell themselves daily either builds them up or hinders their progress.

new york marathon· mantras· affirmations· triathlon· mental performance

02:21 I'm as i'm wondering into this episode and realizing that posted this on facebook in a number of groups this week. And a whole bunch of people replied with their mantras, with what they say to themselves so should have bought that ready for the show. You just get caught up it i'm very focused on making sure that this happens on a weekly basis And sometimes, well as this is the example clearly if I'd gone back through those chats and pulled up some of the mantras that other people had left. That would be bloody useful, bloody sensible but I haven't done that i'm just looking now on Facebook as we're doing this. That's why I need a producer, I need to show producers sit in the background and do this

03:04 It could take forever for me to go and find some of those but anyway we'll come to that. A mantra that I use, one of the ones i really use is winners never quit And Quitters never win by just trim that and leave it with winners never quit. And for me the magic of that mantra, that affirmation is that the result we're looking for is at the finish line no matter what it takes you know The New York Marathon I ran The New York Marathon in about... You don't want to know the time! That's the funny part of story but in terms of the year The year was some kind of 2008.

03:48 Maybe 2007 and I done a triathlon that summer and had great time actually. And someone said to me, Oh come on do the New York Marathon? Yeah OK go on then! It was sponsored thing you have to raise a load of money and then it cost hardly anything to go into it so of course I didn't raise enough money and I wasn't really prepared for the whole thing costs me about five grand or some horrific amount of money and the experience running the marathon The Jonnie Jensen Show, Jonnie Jensen

04:28 What got me through that was winners never quit, winners never quit the magic. The result is at the finish line and I finished it in some sort of like five hours or something horrific it was almost getting dark by the time I finished but the magic was at the end like the experience was at the end If I'd listened to some of the thoughts that were going through my head during that race, during that marathon. The ones that i didn't create you know...I was putting in there winners never quit, the magic's at the finish and put in pictures in my mind of different coaches

05:07 Rob Mary in Chicago, the Junior Guard events. My dad telling me you if you don't get up you're going to die on this mountain like those kind of messages. You know picturing my wife at the time and my kids at the finish line like that kind of putting those empowering thoughts in my mind to drive me forward that's what kept me going um If I'd listened to You're tired you're hungry your knees hurting your back's hurt if I'd listen to all that i would never ever finished and that's the message. That's the lesson what you tell yourself on a daily basis is either lifting you up or kicking in the bollocks and it's hard she's not there, its not working, I don't like the business, I don't like making sales, I'm running out of money... It's not we are talking about broken men here were talking about people who aren't winning

CHAPTER 03 / 10 Discussion

Reticular Activating System and the Psychology of Focus

The discussion explores how the brain's Reticular Activating System (RAS) acts as a filter to focus the mind on specific desires and thoughts. Referencing Dr. Wayne Dyer, the concept suggests that changing one's perspective directly alters their reality. This psychological mechanism explains why individuals notice specific things, such as a certain car model, once they begin thinking about them.

dr wayne dyer· reticular activating system· law of attraction· psychology· mindset

06:03 But we are talking about what it takes to focus the mind at a level where you can perform, at a level where you can pull the future you desire towards you. And it is a state of mind. You know, we get what we think about all the time I've read and say I've studied like I don't think I ever studied in my life but I have read... That's not true! It springs to mind because my boy has got his mocks at the moment and I'm watching him struggle with revision but nonetheless that's a separate subject I've studied plenty of things. This idea of what goes on in our minds and how we, how what we repeat to ourselves makes a difference. Dr Wayne Dyer like when the way you think about things changes... No! I always get this wrong The way things.. the way you look at things basically it goes When you change the way you look at things, the thing's you look at change There ya go that exactly it When you change the way you look at things, the thing's you look at change

07:04 And it's that message that goes into your brain the either pulls a subject towards you or pushes it away and thats our reticular activating system up here in our brain is kind of its there as a filter, is there to focus us on what we're thinking about about what we want. To a degree, it pulls in the law of attraction and that sort of side of things. It's also about how we stop ourselves going crazy like if we took on board every single sound sight smell you know that is going on around us let alone what were thinking or feeling about it We would go mental our head would be like that's too much so our RADS will focus our mind on what we want its why you hear breakup songs after love songs after break up or its why you see red

07:53 Audi's when you're thinking about buying a red audi right. I don't know why i said red audi, i do have a red car as a Spurs fan like red but quite i know it's like i don't have many red clothes but and i don't wear red on a match day but i do have a red car and i do look quite good in a red t-shirt but but don't tell anyone don't don't tell any any gooners that's for sure um i'm just trying to see if i can pull up any mantras that people have left oh here we go here's one No, no. It's just throw me into the group rather than into my chat. Oh I guess I could search up my own conversation couldn't i? But the things that we tell ourselves matter and you can reprogram your mind by repeating these things to yourself over a long period of time. Esther Hicks' book Ask...no not asking it shall be given or maybe is called that think he is actually

CHAPTER 04 / 10 Discussion

Esther Hicks and Tony Robbins Affirmation Techniques

Techniques from thought leaders like Esther Hicks and Tony Robbins are highlighted as tools for reprogramming the mind through repetition. While some may find affirmations unusual, the segment argues that people are constantly programming themselves with either positive or negative thoughts. A reference to Rocky Balboa illustrates the necessity of mental resilience in absorbing life's challenges and continuing to move forward.

esther hicks· tony robbins· affirmations· rocky balboa· mindset reprogramming

08:56 Brilliant woman. I don't really know her backstory actually, but very much around this sort of psychology and the way the mind works Their famous one is everything's always working out for me Everything's always working out for me That's my impression of her voice by the way What's his name? Tony Robbins. He's got, uh, every day in every way I'm getting faster. Yes! Every day in every way I'm getting stronger. Yes! Everyday and everyway I'm feeling happier. Yes like that is repeatedly reprogramming your mind and you might think that sounds like oh let's flip him weird Johnny why are we going to do that the thing is you're doing it yourself all the time but you're doing it in the opposite way

09:37 I need it doesn't have to be some negative horrible spiel that are like you know later something in notes. Victim and your suffering it can simply be a doubt the creeps into your mind about the result that you desire happening if you imagine you're an elite sports person yet any thought of, I don't think i can do this or i don't think i can beat that person imagine a boxer getting into boxing ring. I'm not sure i can be this guy, wallop he's gonna punch you straight in the face and the energy that it's going to take to get well hopefully haven't been knocked down but the energy is gonna take

10:18 Absorb that punch and keep moving forward to what is it Rocky say in rocky rocky about Bob. It ain't how hard you can hit its how hard you can get here and keep moving forwards thats what winners are made of something along those lines. It's you know it's it's it's give fueling yourself to keep going so when you Don't take control of this. The natural doubts and concerns creep in, and they do that because our brain is also trying to protect us. Is that a good idea? Should you really be doing that? Is it going to work out what she's gonna say? You might look at idiot! You might get shot in the head! You might get kicked into bollocks like like...

CHAPTER 05 / 10 Discussion

Youth Sports Preparation and Positive Reinforcement

A recent experience at a 15-year-old's football trial serves as a case study for prepping the mind for high-pressure situations. By using the drive to the event to sow seeds of confidence and capability, a parent can help a child show up more effectively. The segment posits that affirmations significantly increase the likelihood of achieving a desired outcome by putting the individual on the "front foot."

football trials· parenting· affirmations· confidence· youth sports

11:04 We have a self preservation system inside us which wants to fight or flight. It wants us to stay alive, okay now clearly not all these thoughts and decisions are about staying alive but that's where the machine comes from is it been sabre-toothed tiger going eat us? Or are we gonna spear in take you back to the cave That's where these thoughts were pre programmed from so we have to recognize that in the modern day and program into our mind I was at my boys football trial last night and this is in part where the subject came from, is prepping him correctly as we're driving over there. Is absolutely vital he's a 15 year old lad it's like brains scattered all over the place exactly like mine was and we got to mix up a combination of titting about playing some tunes and in amongst that half hour drive sowing the seed of

12:01 This is gonna work out this is gonna do you know this is this is the moment you've been waiting for if you would do what you know your capable of if u keep cool. Show up and engage and shake the guys hand introduce yourself to a couple of people like you know if you really put yourself on the front foot you're gonna feel great. And it's the thoughts that are running through your mind consistent with that and there is only one in you for a great more than you are great deal more likely, do achieve their outcome that's the power of affirmations and you can harness this and we doing me courage

CHAPTER 06 / 10 Discussion

High Value Man Project I Am List Exercise

The "I Am List" is introduced as a core coaching tool within the Courage section of the 3XE formula. This practice involves journaling and repeating present-tense identity statements—such as "I am a winner" or "I am an entrepreneur"—to train the Reticular Activating System. Professional athletes, including downhill skiers and Formula One drivers, are cited as examples of elite performers who use similar visualization and mental anchoring techniques.

i am list· journaling· high value man project· performance psychology· success habits

12:41 Section of the three xe formula for living inside the high value man project inside of courage is a section and coaching called I am list. And it's this exact process, it's not like oh how you gonna go away and learn to remember that but it is simply inside your journal inside of you know where is your phone or the Wall by the toothbrush or you stick it in your car like there's a place in your day where you repeat yourself, I am list. I am daddy. I am friend. I am lover. I'm entrepreneur. I am investor. I am podcaster. I am funny. I am happy and thriving in life

13:28 I am the source of my success, I'm the recipient of all the blessings and joy that is owed to me. I am moving towards the life i desire. I am a winner like these are Our messages to your brain, to your reticular activating system that you're in control of. And when you journal about it when you repeat them on a daily basis, when you have it there, you'll see very much like I talked about boxes before but we used to watch a lot of ski Sunday like downhill skiing. You can see them at the start they bang their poles, they bang their helmet. They're like...you can see particularly slalom skiers

14:11 Picturing the race down there down the track you see Formula One drivers doing as well and this is what it's available to you to harness these people who are at the top of their game in a Top 10 in the world not getting paid millions. It didn't just happen and wake up I haven't gone on developed a load of weird things that completely outside of all of our reach what they're doing Is putting into practice what is available to all of us but most of us won't do it and that's the magic, you know the secret success it's not that secret just a most of us won't do what he takes. So mantras and affirmations are easily available to you got decide what works for you which which are those power plays that work for you slightly different but in similar vein is your ways of being

CHAPTER 07 / 10 Discussion

Landmark Education and Choosing Ways of Being

Drawing on concepts from Landmark Education, the discussion focuses on the ability to choose one's "ways of being" in any given situation. Instead of identifying with negative labels like "nervous" or "introverted," individuals are encouraged to adopt empowering states such as being "bold" or "alive." The exercise involves writing these states in the present tense and displaying them prominently to facilitate mental reprogramming.

landmark education· ways of being· introversion· networking· mindset shifts

15:07 If you follow me a lot, you'll know I reference different work i did around landmark education quite alot. And this idea of your ways of being and being able to choose them fits into this as well because who your going to show up at in any given situation is upto you! A bit like the football academy thing last night... if you have got on your mind, im a bit nervous, im thinking about how it went wrong last time so im doubting my ability I'm scared like that these are all very near. I'm boring, I don't know how to sell. I'm crap at speaking in front of a room of people. I am an introvert is the classic one that people have as a negative rather than just owning who they are. I'm confident introvert and passionate introverts like that's much better than oh I'm an introvert

16:01 Your ways of being if you notice your going into a situation when you're waking up in the morning what's that feeling, whats that thought in your mind. Ok thats not gonna work for me how can I shift that? What are three empowering words I could choose to lift me up and push me forward that are gonna create something happen. To be bold and to be alive and to be Playing, dancing in the conversation like the classic ones. What would that be like? What if you showed up like that full of pride and relaxed and willing to dance in the conversation like, woo okay! That's cool I can see myself at a networking event being effective and being someone people want to meet much more than I'm nervous and tired and really would rather be home

16:57 The affirmations and your I am all into around that as well. Make a list, get piece of paper this is the exercise in practice and you create the Iams in ideally not ideally but definitely in present tense like it's something that you already have not only going to be an investor I'm going to be a property developer whatever he's gonna be a coder right I'm gonna be an AI entrepreneur You say I am, i am this. I am fit, i am strong, i am loving, i am daddy, i am friend, i am bold, i am proud, i am dancing in the conversation, i'm alive with the experience of life saying that writing a journal putting it out on front view on a mirror and looking at mirrors you're saying like it can't fail to lift up it cant fail to reprogram your mind

CHAPTER 08 / 10 Discussion

Personal Resilience During Divorce and Family Tragedy

The speaker shares how affirmations provided a lifeline during a period of intense personal crisis involving a marriage breakdown and a brother's suicide. By flipping negative thoughts into "I Am" statements, difficult moments are reframed as temporary experiences on the path to future success. Listeners are invited to join 10-week coaching cycles within the High Value Man Elite group to implement these practices.

divorce· suicide· mental health· resilience· 10 week cycles

18:01 And I tell you one thing as well when i really learnt the power of this was in a desperate time after My marriage to break down the divorce my brother's suicide like it was a very desperate time the dark cloud the negative thoughts that were running through my mind around. This is broken how on earth am I but how did i get here why this happening its not fair all very negative things if you think about those as negative things what they're doing grinding you down a weight whereas if you flip it If you create a list of I am's that are going to push you through that, then this moment that your simply experiencing right now becomes exactly that. It is the moment your experiencing it is not the end its no who you are Its just a moment your getting through on the way to the result you desire on the way to the relationship success money fun friendships quality time with kids like ON THE WAY THERE!

19:05 You can write in your journal you can receive read out in the car you can literally memorize it so when when you think about this conversation mark this day down, it might be very unnatural for you to be able to instantly say that in the way that I can. Over the next 12 weeks, inside the High Value Man elite group and Elite One-on-One we work in 10 week cycles. We do that three times a year so pick that as a time span See what the difference is even if just start with one week see what the differences between now and next. What is this next sunday from here I am now but what next seven days look like we've put in the practice of I am affirmations and mantras into your life personally it's a game changer its not even that

CHAPTER 09 / 10 Discussion

The Man Cave Facebook Group and Men's Mental Health

A critique of the current state of men's mental health highlights "The Man Cave," a Facebook group with 8,000 members that often features stories of suffering and struggle. Despite living in a thriving Western world with ample connectivity, issues like depression, obesity, and suicide remain prevalent. The High Value Man Project is positioned as a solution-oriented alternative to these bleak environments.

the man cave· facebook groups· mental health· loneliness· suicide prevention

22:46 Getting out in the fresh air like it's all available to us and yet most of us don't do it. Reading a book, learning something new... It is all available to us! And that's what we're doing inside The High Value Man Project. It's about leveling up and being the man that you are meant to be fulfilling your potential achieving or your ambitions why would you want to be anything less than? That doesn't make any sense why would you suffer and put up with anything less than that I can go right off on one for a couple of minutes. I'm in a group, a group in particular on Facebook and the bloke that runs it is a top bloke The Man Cave It's grown massively right? So it's only a couple years old up to about 8000 people now. It specifically about men's mental health. It is bleak in there! Post after post after post is men talking about how they're struggling how they're suffering

23:41 And to me is mind boggling, it's mind boggling that here we are with all this information around us never been so easy to network and connect and go and do things that we love. Particularly in the western world in countries that are thriving yet across-the-board loneliness depression obesity mental health, suicide and divorce. I think that's a divorced wife like it mind blowing literally and the answers aren't that hard and that's to a degree what The High Valley Man Project is about
