About this episode

Louise Miller challenges the pervasive hustle culture in the latest Unfrazzle podcast, introducing the Make It Happen Club as a sanctuary for solo business owners. Miller argues that sustainable productivity requires rejecting rigid external advice in favor of personalized workflow design that prioritizes clarity over constant activity.

Introverts and extroverts require fundamentally different strategies for managing the common 3:00 PM energy slump. While some entrepreneurs find success by blocking out solitude to recharge, others gain momentum through social interaction and scheduled calls. Miller warns against adopting generic productivity hacks, suggesting instead that business owners experiment with their natural rhythms to identify predictable energy patterns. This approach moves away from the standard one-size-fits-all model found in traditional business coaching to focus on individual sustainability and global impact.

Louise Miller encourages a playful curiosity when testing new habits, asking listeners to evaluate whether popular strategies actually feel right for their specific needs. The episode concludes with a request for ratings on Spotify and iTunes to help more entrepreneurs find alternatives to professional overwhelm.

CHAPTER 02 / 4 Discussion

Personal Energy Management and Introvert vs Extrovert Productivity Styles

A discussion on managing afternoon energy dips highlights the difference between introverted and extroverted professional needs. While one approach involves blocking out "Avoid Calls" time from 3-4pm to recharge in solitude, an alternative perspective suggests booking social calls to gain an energy boost. The narrative emphasizes that productivity strategies are not universal and should be tailored to an individual's natural rhythms rather than following rigid external advice.

energy levels· introversion· extroversion· calendar management· productivity advice

01:30 A while ago I was talking to a lovely group of business owners about energy levels and one of the things that i shared during that session was that, I am often tired in the afternoons and so I've created an appointment called Avoid Calls. And I put it on my calendar every single day from 3-4pm just as a way of preventing people from booking themselves into my diary at that time. Also as a little reminder for myself too that its ok for me to take a break if I need to So imagine my surprise when literally the very next day I heard someone on a podcast say, if you dip in energy in the afternoons book in some calls to give yourself a boost. So she said the exact opposite of what I'd said the day before and for a tiny fraction of a second I panicked thinking I've messed up and got it wrong but then I remembered what I've known for a very long time and that is that there is no wrong

02:23 I remembered that during my conversation with that group of business owners, i wasn't telling them what to do. I was telling them what I do as an example of what it might look like to shape their days according to their own natural rhythms so I was encouraging them to get curious and to play And the woman on the podcast who advised people to book in calls, to give themselves a boost is most probably an extrovert who gains her energy from being around other people. I on the other hand am an introvert and i get my energy from being on my own so of course it makes sense for her to booking calls when she knows she's going to have a dip in energy and of course it makes sense for me to do the opposite

03:00 And that is why I will never say to people, this is what I do you should do it too because I know that we're all different. When I'm tired I need alone time when you're tired you might need to be social so...I just want to remind you In amongst all of the noise of what everyone around you might be saying is working for them and what they do, and the best way of doing this that and the other. That you know yourself best! And I would much rather inspire you to pay attention to what works for YOU than share solutions that I know won't work for everyone and that might make you feel like there's something wrong with you

CHAPTER 03 / 4 Discussion

Developing Self-Awareness for Sustainable Business Habits

Entrepreneurs are encouraged to identify predictable energy patterns and experiment with personalized solutions for navigating daily slumps. The guidance warns against adopting "quick fixes" or "hacks" pushed by others, advocating instead for a curious and playful approach to workflow design. By asking whether external advice feels right for their specific needs, business owners can build the confidence to reject sweeping statements about how work should be done.

03:37 So why not practice that today, right? Thinking about your energy. What is a good way for you to navigate your own dips in energy? Are your dips predictable like mine so I know there's a certain point in the afternoon when I'm gonna just need to take a bit of time out Is that the case for you what does it look like for you and if you are able to predict when those dips happen would you like to plan around them in some way and if so what might that look like for you Do you want to book in some calls during that time to give yourself a boost? Or like me, would you rather just give yourself some quiet space or maybe it's something else. My intention through this podcast is to empower you to have the confidence to find a way of getting things done that feels really good for you so that you can say no to all those quick fixes and hacks people might be pushing on you
