About this episode

Louise Miller challenges solo business owners to reject standard New Year productivity tropes in favor of intentional energy management. The Unfrazzle podcast host argues that the transition from festive recovery to professional output requires a deliberate choice between high-intensity momentum and restorative reflection. This framework prioritizes personal wellbeing over the traditional January rush to ensure long-term business sustainability.

Entrepreneurs must categorize their current capacity into either Team Go or Team Slow to dictate their operational pace for the month. Miller suggests that those on Team Go should capitalize on post-holiday surges to tackle major projects, while Team Slow participants should focus on spaciousness and administrative cleanup. The Buy Me a Coffee platform now serves as the primary channel for listener support, while the Unfrazzle mailing list provides ongoing time management strategies for the 2026 fiscal year.

Louise Miller emphasizes that a successful January is defined by how closely a to-do list matches an entrepreneur's desired emotional state. The episode highlights the friction between external pressure to hit the ground running and the biological need for post-holiday recovery. Listeners are encouraged to leave reviews to help other solo founders discover these sustainable productivity habits.

CHAPTER 02 / 4 Discussion

Post-Holiday Reflection and Personal Wellbeing Check

The transition into the new year prompts a reflection on how business owners spent the recent festive season. Whether the period involved family activities or quiet rest, the emphasis is placed on the importance of self-care and finding moments of recovery before returning to work.

01:31 How are you feeling as we welcome in a new year? Now your answer to that question might depend on how the last few weeks unfolded for you. Were you rushing about all over the place, wrangling over excited kiddos spending time with family and throwing yourself into all of the festive fun and frivolity or did you hunker down under a blanket watching Christmas movies or avoiding them entirely if you don't enjoy this time of year doing jigsaws eating mince pies and alternating between a glass of mulled wine and a mug of hot chocolate...or maybe that was just me Did you switch off from work entirely or have you been dipping into your business in the quieter moments? However, you spent this festive season whether this time of year is fun or difficult for you I hope you're taking care of yourself and finding moments of rest. So how are you feeling now

CHAPTER 03 / 4 Discussion

Intentional January Planning for Team Go and Team Slow

January planning should align with an individual's current energy levels rather than external pressures to "hit the ground running." Business owners are encouraged to choose between a high-activity "Team Go" approach or a "Team Slow" approach characterized by spaciousness and reflection. Success for the month depends on ensuring that to-do lists and goals match the desired emotional state of the entrepreneur.

02:16 Excited to dive straight into January and start making incredible things happen, organs blazing? Or are you feeling called to take things gently easing yourself into the new year slowly calmly and quietly. And this is a question I've asked every January since the podcast started because it is important there is no right or wrong way to do at January You don't have to hit the ground running if you don't want to It's okay to take it slowly If you're still feeling called to rest So when I ask you how you're feeling as we start the new year, it's not a trick question. It's not a test. It's an invitation to consider how you want the next few weeks to unfold and then being intentional about that whatever that looks like for you so whether you're on team go or team slow this January is all good and it's important just to make sure that your plan for the month reflects that

03:06 If you want to have a slow month and you're feeling called to ease in gently, having a bazillion things on your To Do list is probably not a good idea. So as you start thinking about what you would love to focus on and accomplish this month just pause for a second to consider how you want your January to feel? Do you want it to be buzzy and full of activity and action Or would you prefer it to be spacious, reflective and calm? Or maybe it's a bit of both. You know yourself best and have navigated many Januarys already so what feels right for you right now? And how can you make sure that your plan for this month aligns with that? As always I hope this helps and wish you a very happy new year full of focus, fulfilment & fun!
