About this episode

Jeff Davis broadcasts a memorial from the Mount Carmel facility in Waco, Texas, marking the seventeenth anniversary of the 1993 Branch Davidian siege. The site now faces a new threat as McLennan County surveyors map the Trans-Texas Corridor to run directly through the memorial chapel. Stuart Nelson reports that the proposed southbound fast lane would physically overwrite the sacred grounds where the community has rebuilt since the massacre.

Architect George Pulliam designed the current church and surrounding facilities between 1999 and 2000 before his death from cancer in 2005. Surviving members of the community continue to maintain the grounds while converting the former gymnasium site into a kitchen for memorial gatherings. Evidence from FLIR footage remains a central point of contention, with documentary records allegedly showing government snipers firing on individuals attempting to escape the burning center during the final assault. Local officials have reportedly restricted public access to the latest Trans-Texas Corridor maps as construction plans for the highway project advance through central Texas.

Jeff Davis honors the legacy of George Pulliam while walking the grounds of the rebuilt chapel. The broadcast captures the somber atmosphere of the April 19 anniversary as volunteers work to preserve the site. Stuart Nelson provides a detailed walkthrough of the looming infrastructure projects threatening the Davidian memorial.

00:58 The southbound fast lane literally rolls right over the top of the church. We've got maps of it, they won't release them anymore in this county. They're somehow mysteriously not available anymore but anyway we did get many copies before they stopped allowing it to be released to be released. That's what they're trying to do, roll the Trans-Texas Corridor right over the top of the church maybe that is something else another reason why they murdered people that did here so there are probably many reasons anyway folks we just enjoyed the sights and thanks for watching this isn't bad I mean he should have left it like it was but this might be better

03:51 which has been documented with FLIR footage on at least two documentary films about what happened here in Waco. And sniper positions set up all around as the fire started, people running out of the fire trying to save their life being gunned down by a loving government. Pretty awesome! Right here this big slab is where the gymnasium was and we're standing on an area right now that's being added on to make a kitchen so that there can actually be a little bit more done out here as far as get togethers and especially with the memorial and everything. So anyway, it's a somber place. It certainly is there!
