About this episode

Johnny Jensen launched the High Value Man Project this week to challenge the pervasive culture of negative self-talk among modern fathers. The program debut at highvaluemanproject.com introduces the High Value Man Blueprint, a framework designed to help men recalibrate their personal relationships and professional trajectories through radical self-compassion and intentional goal setting.

Recent coaching sessions revealed a recurring pattern where men overlook incremental gains in family life while obsessing over missed career milestones. Jensen advocates for the Helicopter View to visualize long-term progress and replace internal criticism with affirmations of one's identity as a father and brother. This shift leverages the Reticular Activating System to filter for new opportunities and creative solutions. The methodology suggests that a clear purpose activates a biblical energy capable of attracting essential resources and community connections to an individual's path.

Johnny Jensen shares a vulnerable look at the mental showreel of failures that often plagues high achievers. He explains how a simple change in perspective transforms a perceived rock-bottom moment into a necessary step toward an ideal life. The episode serves as a tactical guide for men looking to rewire their brains for success.

CHAPTER 02 / 3 Discussion

Reframing Personal Struggles and Adopting the Helicopter View

A discussion of a recent coaching call illustrates how men often focus on missing goals while overlooking incremental progress in their careers and family lives. Adopting a "helicopter view" allows individuals to see small steps toward their ideal life rather than feeling stuck at rock bottom. The narrative encourages replacing negative self-talk with positive affirmations regarding one's role as a father, brother, and friend.

00:37 Let's go. One of the most powerful things about the work that I do is being able to make a difference in people's lives. So I just spoke to a guy and, you know, his usual stories, his relationship broke down. He's fighting to see his daughter. His work situation is tricky. It could be one of those or it could be all of those. But I got to spend a half an hour with him. And you get to share, you get to ask them what's going on for them.

01:16 You get to see what the story is all about. And they can't see how much good they're doing because what they want is still out of reach. The life they want, the relationship they want, the time with their kid they want, the body, the money, everything. It looks out of reach. And then we panic because it's like sands, grains of sands in an hour class. It looks like there's only a few left and they're quickly falling through. But the reality is, when you take a longer view, that he's got a new job, that he's

02:02 learning new skills, that he's volunteering at his daughter's school, that he's in communication with his family, who, by the way, you know, aren't that great. But he's making the effort. When you can, it's so easy to focus on everything that's missing, all the things that are wrong, that you miss out on all the good. You miss out on all the wins, all the progress. So far from feeling like everything's getting worse or rock bottom, you can take a wider perspective, like the helicopter view, and see that you're actually making tiny steps up, tiny steps towards the life that you want to create.

02:50 And so when you speak to yourself as this is all wrong, I've screwed up, it's never going to be what I want it to be. No, like let alone all the things you're getting bombarded with. When you start to tell yourself who I am is an awesome guy, an incredible dad, a brother, son, lover, friend, I'm creating opportunities for myself on a daily basis. I forgive and love and support those around me. You get to choose what the affirmation is. You get to choose how you see the man in the mirror.

03:35 So don't talk shit to yourself about what you aren't or where you failed or why you're a douchebag because it's not the case. If you're not doing anything to make things better, then you've got to get real with yourself. But if you are, then the message has to be, you're incredible. We are on our way back. Because whether you believe in God, the universe, whoever, where you are right now is exactly where you need to be to become the man you're meant to be. It's a process. It's an evolution. It's a journey. You can't get to the morning unless you go through the night.

CHAPTER 03 / 3 Discussion

Creative Energy and the Reticular Activating System

Focusing on a clear purpose triggers the reticular activating system to identify new opportunities that were previously unnoticed. This creative process involves shifting from a negative "showreel" of failures to an energetic search for solutions and connections. The speaker links this mental shift to a faith-based or biblical energy that attracts interested people and helpful resources to an individual's path.

04:18 And when you start to reframe it all like that, you get to find incredible power. You get to be hungry for the next step. What am I creating? Where am I headed? What does that look like? Who will be there with me? Whether it's in your relationship and your home and your work and your fitness and like whatever area of life is, make it vivid. Make it really clear. You're in the middle of it creating. You're not alone either. When a man or a woman, basically, when a human being gets really focused on what they are here for.

05:00 of the difference they're making. Like that energy that starts to burn bright. That's for me is the biblical side of it, the faith-based side of it. Whoever your God or your persuasion is, when you start to be clear about what it is you're up to, opportunities flow. People are interested. Oh, there's something about him. What are you up to? Oh, nothing. My life is shit. No, well, actually, I've had a bit of a tough time, but can I tell you what I'm up to? Like what I'm creating? Oh, yeah, sure, that's interesting. Tell me. Well, it looks like this. Oh, wow. Yeah, I know a guy that's into that. Or I know a woman that'd be perfect for you. Or I did a running race last week where we learned to do this and this.

05:43 Like the opportunities come when you create them. The exact opposite happens when you stop creating. Or worse, when you start running this negative showreel about what you can't do, about where you've lost, about what's going wrong. It's a self-fulfilling prophecy. So whether you like that idea or not, you might as well gamble on it being true. Because simply thinking and feeling and showing up as positivity is so much more enjoyable. It's such a more acceptable, easy, pleasurable way of being. It gives you joy in the moment. It gives you something to wake up for.

06:26 What am I up to today? I'm up to this. I don't know where it's coming from or how it's happening, but I'm going to make two steps forward today towards it. It's a creative process. The neural pathways in our brain start firing in energetic and excited ways. It's like looking for solutions. I like that. What could I do? What could I create? Where can that come from? Have you ever thought about our reticular activating system as we walk along, as we listen, as we read, as we watch? We'll start to notice things that you were previously closed off to. It's an opportunity machine that you're in control of.

07:08 It's the complete opposite to what people think or fear or, oh, I can't do it. It's the complete opposite. You get what you think about most of the time. So think about more good stuff more often. I can't tell you any other way. That's the high-value man way of being. That is where you create the upward spiral, the unstoppable, the unstoppable progression of small, consistent steps in a direction that inspires you. So guys, if anything like that rings a bell, if it resonates with you, if it's something that you want a piece of, then I've got so much for you.
